From Rocks to Toys and Christmas Joy

First of all, I want to thank God for allowing me to bring joy to my childhood community this Christmas season in Acobamba, Huancavelica (Huancavelica is a farming region that is considered the most impoverished area in Peru where the majority of residents are indigenous and speak the native language of Quechua. It is a 15 hours drive from Lima with windy roads that are in terrible condition). Being there overflowed my heart with joy and made me recall my days as a kid. I remember when I was 10 years old, my only "toys" were rocks from the field. Some of them I imagined being cars. I also remember that I used to play with a ball made of plastic.

It was the way for me and my friends to have fun with what we had due to the lack of financial support my community had.

For Christmas, all we had to celebrate was a piece of bread and milk from our cow. When most people celebrate Christmas they dress up nicely and have nice things, but for us it was a regular day. We didn't have the money to celebrate or buy new clothes like some people do every Christmas.

I am blessed with my beautiful family and the people I work with at Make a Miracle. Bringing Christmas to Acobamba was priceless and seeing the joy we were able to give my community was an amazing feeling.

Bringing the Chocolatada and toys to my community made me feel like Santa Claus. I am so happy I was given this opportunity through MAM to be able to spread the Christmas spirit to my childhood home. The people in the community were so grateful for MAM and wished us all the blessings for future years to continue spreading the Christmas spirit and showing everyone what it is all about. God bless the MAM leaders for helping us bless other communities and giving them this joy for the holiday season. Thank you Carolyn and all the donors for making this possible for me and my people. Froylan Quispe and his wife Giovanna work for Make a Miracle in Community Support. Froylan's roles are diverse, from foreman of the Wellness Center build, to caretaker of Sheriff Bobby the dog and now Santa Claus.

El Espíritu Navideño

En primer lugar, quiero agradecer a Dios por permitirme llevar alegría a la comunidad de mi infancia en esta época navideña en Huancavelica Acobamba. Estar allí desbordó mi corazón de alegría y me hizo recordar mis días de niño. Recuerdo que cuando tenía 10 años, mis únicos "juguetes" eran piedras del campo. Algunas me las imaginaba como carros. También recuerdo que jugaba con una pelota de plástico. Era la forma en que mis amigos y yo nos divertíamos con lo que teníamos debido a la falta de apoyo financiero que tenía mi comunidad.

Para la Navidad, todo lo que teníamos para celebrar era un trozo de pan, bizcocho y leche de la vaca. Cuando la mayoría de la gente celebra la Navidad se viste bien y tiene cosas bonitas, pero para nosotros era un día normal. No teníamos dinero para celebrarlo ni para comprar ropa nueva como hacen algunas personas cada Navidad.

Tengo la suerte de contar con mi hermosa familia y la gente con la que trabajo en MAM. Llevar la Navidad a Acobamba no tiene precio y ver la alegría que pudimos dar a mi comunidad fue una sensación increíble.

Llevar la Chocolatada y los juguetes a mi comunidad me hizo sentir como Papá Noel. Estoy muy contento de haber tenido esta oportunidad a través de MAM de poder contagiar el espíritu navideño al lugar de mi infancia. La gente de la comunidad estaba muy agradecida con MAM y nos deseó todas las bendiciones para que en los próximos años sigamos difundiendo el espíritu navideño y mostrando a todos de qué se trata. Dios bendiga a los líderes de MAM por ayudarnos a bendecir a otras comunidades y darles esta alegría en este tiempo navideño.
